2023-24 Hastings County Queen & Princess of the Furrow

Location: Burkitt Farm - Frankford, Ontario
Draft Schedule
Wednesday August 20 (9am-4pm)
11 am - Queen Contestants are expected to be at the match
12 pm - Opening Ceremonies at Main Tent
1p m - Queen Contestants Plowing
Thursday August 21 (9am-4pm)
9 am - Queen Contestants are expected to be at the match
10 am - Queen Contestants Interviews
12 pm - Queen Contestants Speeches and Crowning at Main Tent
Judging Scores:
Plowing Ability- 100
Interview- 250
3 to 4-minute Speech- 250
Appearance and Deportment- 100
Dress Code:
For plowing remember to wear sensible shoes and clothing.
Please note you will be on a stage so people will be looking up at you, so a short skirt is not appropriate.
Speech:
3 to 4 minutes agriculture related. Cue cards are permitted. Your speech will be timed with a visible score keeper.
Interview:
Approx. 5 to 10 minutes in length.
Sample Questions will be given to you.
2023-24 Queen and Princess Passing the Crown
To the 2024-25 Queen and Princess
With the Ontario 2023-24 Queen
Must be 18-24 years old.
DO NOT have to live on a farm
Attend as many local Hastings County Plowmen's Association meetings as possible.
Attend the next year's Hastings County Farm Show and Plowing Match from start to finish.
Attend as many local Santa Claus Parades as possible. Signage is provided.
Attend "Staking day" 1 to 2 weeks prior to the Plowing Match to help stake the site. You will have advanced notice of the date of this.
The Queen is encouraged to visit schools and local community groups to educate children and adults on agriculture, the Plowing Match, farm safety, where your food comes from, etc. The Queen shall choose her own topics when visiting schools and community groups.
The Queen is encouraged to seek out local community groups to speak at Community Events.
The Queen is encouraged to contact local fair boards and inquire about speaking at opening ceremonies, handing out ribbons at livestock shows, etc.
The Queen is encouraged to visit any other neighbouring "County Plowing Matches" that she would like to attend.
The Queen must wear her crown and Sash to all "Oueen" activities and wear the required dress code while representing the Hastings County Plowmen's Association.
The Queen is not permitted to drink alcoholic beverages while on Queen Duty.
The Queen will be required to write a biography for the Hastings County Farm Show and Plowing Match Website/ along with a photograph of her choice.
The Queen is required to write thank you cards to all sponsors of the gifts that she receives. (Plowman's will pay for the postage and expenses)
